Chris Foster
As a young man born and raised in an apostolic home I was not always the “Christian” I should have been. It seemed the story of my life was allot like the Apostle Paul said in Romans 7:21, “When I would do good, evil is present with me.” BUT GOD!
Born in Jacksonville North Carolina to Bobby and Linda Foster October 17th, 1974, I was shown daily what it meant to be a Christian not only at church, but in the community as well. My parents didn’t teach Christian, they lived Christian! From their dealings with one another, their dealings with my siblings and me, to their dealings with strangers on the street. My parents example was my school master. Needless to say I didn’t always get good grades… but through their belief in the application of the board of education to the seat of knowledge and Gods grace and mercy, I am the man I am today.
Married to my childhood sweetheart, Arisha (Parrilla) Foster, I press towards the mark of the high call of God. Arisha and I were married June 15th, 1995 and my love for her grows stronger daily. Together my wife and I have dedicated our lives to the furtherance of Gods work through childrens ministry. Shortly after we were married we began to teach Sunday School, in some of the very class rooms we ourselves were taught. After just a couple of short years teaching we decided we were ready to take on parenthood. I learn daily you’re never ready for parenthood… My mom and dad were not just educating me but I was also educating them! Andrew Foster was born as our little miracle on May 27th, 1998. Absolutely sure that we were finished and that our family of three was full Arisha and I decided we were not going to have any more children. Someone once said if you want to make God laugh tell him your plans… November 2005 I’m almost positive I heard God laugh as we learned that Gods plan was for our family to be a family of four. Cody Foster was born on August 12th, 2006. God has been so good to me.
Just after Codys birth late 2006 God began to deal with me regarding deeper involvement in childrens ministry, I received confirmation that it was God in 2007 when Pastor Daniel Hypolite, our youth Pastor here at theUPC approached me regarding joining the Youth Group Leadership Team, little did he know God had already been working on me, needless to say the answer was yes. It never occurred to me until the first week in the youth room not only was I doing Gods will but he had orchestrated it so that my first group of young people to work with were the same young people who were in my class when I first began to teach Sunday School.
Shortly after joining the Youth Team my wife and I discussed the need for providing transportation to the youth on Wednesday Nights via the Church Van. God has blessed this endeavor for we now run two vans on Wednesday Night and the overflow has also affected our Sunday School Program. Inside of one year we went from one van route for Sunday School to two vans running two routes each. Today there are three vans on the road TO GOD BE ALL OF THE GLORY!
In 2009 my wife and accepted the position of “Sunday School Superintendents” for theUPC of Jacksonville. I will be the first to tell you I am not worthy… BUT GOD! It is with a thankful heart I serve my God in this capacity. Thank you Pastor and Sister Wallace for your belief in my wife and I, Thank you saints of theUPC of Jacksonville for looking beyond our childhood faults and failures and getting behind us in our endeavors to bring “the whole gospel to the whole world… one child at a time”.
