hrist!

When Jesus lived on earth, He reached out and touched.  He touched the unsaved, the sick, the lonely, the downhearted, the discouraged, the rich, the poor and the needy.  Sometimes His touch was a physical touch from His hand.  Sometimes He touched with His words.  Other times, it was His Spirit that reached out and touched.

I John 3:18 admonishes us to “…show love for others by truly helping them and not merely talking about it.”  Our ladies have made it their goal to put this scripture into action by touching those around us.

Prayer meetings, Bible studies, socials, food collection, fund raising events and visitation are some of the avenues we are using to reach out and “Touch Ladies 4 Christ“.  Our goal is to be His hands extended in the community in which He has placed us.

Treasures
While watching our Sunday School children perform their Christmas play this past year entitled “Christmas Treasures”, this scripture came to mind;

2 Corinthians 4:7 We are like clay jars in which this treasure is stored. The real power comes from God and not from us. (Contemporary English Version)

A treasure is any possession that is highly valued by its owner.  It can be something intangible and of no monetary value such as a relationship or a fond memory.  Or it can be a tangible object of great monetary value such as a piece of art, precious metals or jewels.

Which “treasure” was Paul referring to in his writings to the church at Corinth?  He  was referring to the gospel.  The gospel of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  That gospel that says we can repent of our sins, be buried in the name of Jesus for the remission of our sins and then be filled with His Holy spirit so we can live an overcoming life.

By taking on the family name in baptism, we have complete access to the power and authority there is in that name.  Power to cast out devils; power to be delivered from the chains of sin; power to be healed of mental, emotional and physical diseases.

Then the overcoming power of the Holy Ghost is freely given to us.  This Spirit leads us and guides us on this daily journey toward heaven; it gives us the power we need to live an overcoming life.

When I was a child, I had a vinyl record of children’s choruses and this one came to mind:

I have a wonderful treasure.
The gift of God without measure.
So we’ll travel together,
My Bible and I.

Yes, I consider my Bible a great treasure.  It is the God-inspired, Holy Ghost anointed word of God and it is the only roadmap that will take me to heaven.

So I thank God for the treasures of His name, His word and His Spirit.

When people own something of great value, they want to protect it the best way they can.  Some people keep their treasures in safety deposit boxes, vaults, or safes.  Others keep their treasures in their home but invest in a security alarm.  Why?  Because they don’t want to risk having their treasure lost or stolen.

Our scripture says that this treasure that has been given to us is stored in clay jars!  Now what is safe about that?  A clay jar can easily be lost, stolen or broken.  Think about it.  If you had a one million dollar bill (assuming there is such a thing), would you prefer to keep it in a clay jar or in a vault in a secure bank?  I think the answer is a no-brainer.

When I think that the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords would entrust this treasure in an imperfect clay vessel such as I, I hardly know how to respond or what to say.  “Thank you” just seems so inadequate.

I can only pray that I…(2 Timothy 2:21) …will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
(English Standard Version)
